An Inspector Calls Promotional Pictures

The BBC has today released promotional pictures from the second part of their 20th Century Literature season. Based around adaptions of classic works of literature from the 20th century, the 20th Century Season consists of Lady Chatterley’s Lover, An Inspector Calls, Cider with Rosie and The Go Between. The adaption stars David Thewlis (Shameless, Harry Potter) as The Inspector with Ken Stott (Rebus, Messiah) as Arthur Birling and Miranda Richardson (Blackadder, A Dance To The Music Of Time). Based on J. B Priestley’s famous play, An Inspector Calls has previously been adapted many times, most famously in 1954 in a film starring the late Alistar Simm as The Inspector. An Inspector Calls will be broadcast on Sunday the 13th of September from 8:30pm to 10:00pm. The synopsis for the film is below along with more promotional pictures:

An Inspector Calls is a mysterious detective thriller, set in 1912 and written by celebrated British dramatist JB Priestley. Adapted for BBC One by Helen Edmundson.

Following the suicide of a young woman from the local town, an inspector (David Thewlis) calls unexpectedly to interrogate the wealthy Birling family. As their world unravels, each member of the family is revealed to have unwittingly played a part in her demise.

Set at a time when society was transforming and women’s lives were about to change forever, An Inspector Calls is considered to be one of the classics of 20th century theatre.
