Multi-award-winning comedy sketch show Horrible Histories returns to CBBC for a one-off special – Horrible Histories: Ridiculous Romance – as we discover what pulled the heartstrings of some of the most famous lovers of days gone by (and the sometimes not-so-lucky objects of their affection).

Packed with the usual mix of fascinating facts, popular pastiches and gruesome gags, this special is full of brand-new sketches from the Horrible Histories regulars Mathew Baynton (The Wrong Mans; Spy; Gavin And Stacey), Simon Farnaby (Your Highness; The Mighty Boosh), Martha Howe-Douglas (The Armstrong And Miller Show), Jim Howick (Reggie Perrin; Peep Show; The Armstrong And Miller Show), Laurence Rickard (Balls Of Steel) and Ben Willbond (Rev; The Thick of It).

We find out what happens when Henry VIII takes part in TV show Dating In Darkness and meets latest love Anne of Cleves, discover the problems encountered by Queen Elizabeth I’s portrait artist, and are treated to romantic musical interludes from The Love Rats Club, plus Queen Victoria as she duets with Prince Albert. We also say hello to Rattus Rattus’s brand-new girlfriend Ratalie, who Rattus Rattus is hoping will be impressed by a romantic dinner of ‘cockroach in jus de rubbish bag’…
