Doctor Who Electronic Talking Dalek Figures
By Will Barber

Recently, Character Options have announced a new wave of Doctor Who figures to fill the gap between now and the start of the new series of Doctor Who. The figures are talking Daleks from several different eras of Doctor Who. (Interestingly, the Moffat era Daleks are not included in the wave.) which basically means the same as previous Dalek figures but they can now talk. Unlike the rather disappointing Third and Fourth Doctor Sonic Screwdrivers, the talking Daleks have the same sound effects that were used in the original episodes. The Daleks in the wave are as follows:
Dalek Invasion of Earth Dalek (This is a brand new figure.)
Power of The Daleks Dalek (This is basically a Chase Dalek from The Chase set but with a repaint of the skirt section.)
Planet of The Daleks Dalek (This is the same as a Genesis Dalek from the Genesis of The Daleks figure set but obviously with the chip inside it which makes it talk.)
Death to The Daleks Dalek (This is exactly the same as the Dalek released in the two pack Death to the Daleks set but with the addition of the talking chip.)
Revelation of the Daleks Dalek (This is the same as the Dalek released in the Revelation of the Daleks set but with the added talking chip.)
Bronze Dalek (This is a RTD Dalek based on the same mould as the Dalek released in the first Matt Smith wave of figures but with the talking chip.)
This truly is a good move for Character Options. By reusing figures from more expensive sets but adding something new to them they should be able to hopefully attract people who have not bought the expensive sets. Also, for the people who have already bought the sets, they will now be able to get something new out of figures they have already bought. Well, that is the theory. The problem is though, surely that people who have forked out money to buy these figures and have been reassured that they are “exclusive” to the set and then find out that they are not are bound to feel a bit miffed. What a dangerous game to play in these times of recession, don’t Character Options see how it could back fire on them and make people stop buying their figures? Only time will tell.
